The Bridge – Linking community and sport

On Saturday, 1st  March, as part of the CFA project, the Club installed a pedestrian bridge over the Ashton New Road / Alan Turing Way road junction to offer an alternative crossing that links the new site with the Etihad Stadium. The Bridge, which was assembled on the ground and subsequently lifted into place, will provide a safe crossing point for both people walking through the neighbourhood and users of the MCFC facilities. During match days these roads will no longer be subject to temporary closures as the new structure will be able to channel thousands of people across site, thus ensuring traffic will flow freely to and from the stadium. In addition to the practical benefits, the bridge signifies the young players’ aspirations to progress from academy football to the first team. We anticipate that it will open alongside the 7,000 seat stadium in the autumn of 2014.
