Stefan Savic, rated one of the brightest young prospects in European football, became Roberto Mancini's second signing of the summer when he agreed a four-year deal in early July, 2011.

He was granted a work permit by the Home Office thanks to his prominence for Montenegro, who emerged as England’s main group opposition for a place in the Euro 2012 finals.

Savic, whose preferred position is centre half, began his professional career with FK BSK Borca during the 2008–09 season, having impressed in coming through the ranks at junior club Brskovo.

In early 2010, he spent ten days on trial with Arsenal, but although it was reported that the player would move permanently to The Emirates despite interest from Tottenham and Birmingham, the transfer was never effected.

Then in August 2010, the right-footed defender signed for Partizan Belgrade on a four-year contract. Last season he played 28 matches and scored one goal, picking up valuable Champions League experience.

Savic represented his country at every youth level including Under-17, Under-19 and Under-21 teams before making his senior debut in a friendly against Northern Ireland on 11 August, 2010.

He went on to impress in Montenegro's goalless draw against England at Wembley in October.
